Though the weather wasn't ideal, the community came together to celebrate the season. The festivities kicked off with a cozy crowd, but the square quickly filled with friendly faces – neighbors, families, and even generous business owners offering hot cocoa, popcorn, and other treats. There was something for everyone: a live hockey game on the big screen, delicious eggnog courtesy of Hood, a sing-along with the cast of Frozen, awe-inspiring live ice sculptures, energetic Celtic dancers, and festive carolers.
The highlight of the evening, of course, was the lighting of the magnificent tree, sparkling with holiday cheer. People of all ages came together to experience the magic of the season.

A few years back, we at Convinced Photography had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Portland Downtown. We documented their festive holiday events, showcasing the collaboration between local volunteers and businesses in the greater Portland, Maine area.
On this particular day, the excitement hummed in the air as we joined the caravan carrying the gigantic holiday tree – a beacon of festive cheer destined for the heart of Monument Square. Witnessing its arrival, along with the joy of everyone involved, was truly a sight to behold. Here's just one of the images I (Liz from Convinced Photography) captured that day! We were excited to photograph and document the amazing Indigenous People's Day event hosted by the Children's Museum and Theatre of Maine in Portland, Maine (located at Thompson's Point) in 2023. The museum celebrated the occasion with a special Wabanki event, coinciding with the opening of a new outdoor exhibit and playground focused on educating and engaging children about Maine's indigenous Wabanaki tribes. Families came together to enjoy the new space and celebrate the indigenous artist behind its creation. Musicians and cultural educators led the crowd in song and dance, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. Documenting the joy, peace, and acceptance shared by everyone who participated in the Indigenous People's Day event was a truly enriching experience. My background as a Latina photographer running my own business in Maine, combined with my Native American ancestry, made this event particularly meaningful to me.
Through the lens of our cameras, we capture the power of community action. Photographs like these aren't just keepsakes; they serve as vital documentation of positive change. This day exemplifies that spirit perfectly. The United Way of Southern Maine brought together Hannaford employees to create a vibrant mural at The Opportunity Alliance. The finished piece, a beacon of hope for all who enter, embodies the message "Hope starts with you." These photos not only showcase the artistic accomplishment, but also highlight the collaborative spirit that makes these projects possible.
Convinced Photography was honored to be part of United Way of Southern Maine's recent Day of Action! This summer event brings together volunteers from local businesses and pairs them with worthy non-profit organizations across Southern Maine. On this particular day, we documented the fantastic work of UNUM volunteers at Westbrook Middle School. Dozens of enthusiastic volunteers gathered early to transform the school's learning garden. Their mission: to create a welcoming and well-maintained space for future student gardeners. UMUM employees volunteer with the United Way of Southern Maine at the Westbrook Middle School garden. As photographers, we're passionate about capturing moments where community, non-profits, and needs converge. We find immense power in documenting the act of people coming together to create positive change for their environment and neighbors. These actions, while seemingly small in the grand scheme, are the vital building blocks of a thriving planet and local community. Our lenses focus on the individuals who choose to make a difference, and the dedication they bring to their chosen cause. Ready to Get Involved? Inspired by these dedicated volunteers? We encourage you to reach out to the United Way of Southern Maine. They'll be happy to connect you with a volunteer opportunity that aligns with your interests!
